The Origins of Paul…Urban Legend? I Think Not!

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

While traveling to Lancaster County Pennsylvania recently, I discovered our good friend Paul’s homeland.  That’s right ladies and gentlemen!  My investigative journaling has done it again!  The truth has been brought out…enjoy.

Godel, Escher, Bach

I read the comics at XKCD as often as they come out with new ones.  Most of the time they are funny, but sometimes they are funny in ways that are so nerdy that I can’t stop laughing for several minutes.

This is a clear example:

Logic Joke

Now if you didn’t find that funny…  well you must not be a nerd I guess.  Godel was a famous mathematician who wrote many papers on logic and logical systems.  He basically proved that you can’t put everything in a nice clean package or universal theory of some kind. He especially proved that you can’t make a comprehensive list of all of BLANK.

For more about Godel check out this book (which I own a real physical copy of).

54 days beard growth in 11.4 seconds

Monday, August 11th, 2008

My friends (VQ and Sean) and I have been having a small “beard race.”  Basically we aren’t shaving for a year…  at this point I don’t think any of us are going to really make it.  I REALLY want to trim and maintain my beard better, but I’m not allowed to.

Anyways, we have been taking a picture a day of ourselves and posting them online for comparison.  I’m not to date on the site and Sean hasn’t updated their pictures 15 days at this point.  So, the site is a little useless.

Firefox’s Built-in Spellcheck Stinks

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

I was just writing an e-mail when I misspelled “Apparently.”  Firefox is great in that it told me that I misspelled it, but look at the suggestions it gives me:

Esperanto!?  What the heck? It’s like it’s looking for something that matches putting more weight on the letters further right rather then left.

I then added another P and it gave me what I was looking for.

Is there a plug-in for a better one out there?  Typing that same misspelling into a google search or dictionary.com search and they give me the correct suggestion (or at least something a little closer).
